I have plans for a big purge this weekend. I started to get the itch again after I (finally) got all of my autumn/winter coats out…
In case you’re counting there are 14.
I also realized later that a few were not pictured…
Clearly I have a problem. Have I mentioned that I live in the south? Where it doesn’t get super cold?
I have culled some, but not nearly as many as I thought I would. While some of these coats are on their way to the homeless shelter, I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I need. The prepared person in me wants to keep one of each type so I’m prepared for anything… but if I don’t ever wear them what’s the point?
In case you’re wondering, the coats are a perfect sampling of the rest of our belongings… meaning we have too much of everything. Not just coats. I’m just fed up with it. Part of the reason my house is always a disaster is because I don’t have anywhere to put things… because the storage areas are filled to the brim with boxes of stuff. I have refused to completely unpack before now because I knew this place was temporary. I knew we would be moving to a place of our own at some point… The result is that we haven’t truly lived in this house. That just makes my Mama heart sad.
Because I’m a fixer, my plans for the weekend are a bit ambitious. I want to make this house our home… now. I don’t care that we may be moving in a couple of months. I have robbed my kids of a warm and comfortable home for too long.
The battle plan is to start in the garage… then work our way to the crazy room inside.
Wish us luck!!
The Hubs and I may hate each other after this weekend, but I’m tired of feeling like we’re just waiting for the next house. I want to actually use the crazy room before we move. An added bonus is that getting rid of stuff means we have less to move. :-)
